What is the point of launching another dating website when there are so many?
DateMySchool is an experiment of bringing together students and alumni from different departments and schools who haven't had the opportunity so far to meet or date. We try to be the safest, most private, and most beautifully designed dating site in the world. We think there are good reasons why so few people try online dating sites (less than 20% based on Pew Research data), and we try to solve these.
Are you going to SPAM me with ads?
No, we don't have ads on the site because we believe it disrupts the user experience. We will only introduce ads if we don't have any other choice to pay our bills.
Who can join the website?
Any student and alumni may join DateMySchool who can be authenticated via his/her school e-mail or some other way. We restrict our services to students and alumni because some kind of authentication is necessary to improve the online dating experience. Since only students and alumni can join, there won't be any weirdos, SPAM, SCAM or fake profiles. We know there is trade-off between the quantity of profiles and their quality. All of our competitors go for quantity. We go for quality.
Is this another Facebook?
No, in fact it's the inverse of Facebook, we like to call it a Reversed Social Network (RSN) since users have the option to exclude anyone they know. If you want to date someone you know, we suggest you call him/her on the phone…
On the other hand, you will have plenty of opportunities to date people you wouldn't have the chance to meet otherwise.
What is all that fuss about privacy, safety, security, etc.?
We believe the reasons behind most people not trying online dating sites revolve around privacy, safety, the amount of SPAM, SCAM, fake profiles, etc. Online dating just hasn't been a pleasant experience thus far for most of us... Therefore we put privacy in the center of whatever we do. We try to earn your trust, so that you can trust your date.
Why would you be any better than other existing dating sites?
There are three main reasons:
1. Safety: we believe we are the safest meeting and dating site currently available, since we require strict authentication for instance through school email addresses. It's almost impossible to trick the system, since 1 email = 1 user
2. Privacy: We not only talk about privacy, but made clear in our choices that we won't compromise on this. The most obvious example is that we restricted membership to students and alumni and even members can not access many profiles. While it is a common belief that the value of an online dating site lies in the number of profiles we think you won't need more than one perfect date every now and then.
3. Affinity: You will meet people with the same education level, same age, same ambition, etc. And we make sure that there are no fake profiles. Flirt, or find your partner for life: you will have less time for these things during work, believe us…
Who are you guys?
We are both graduate school students at Columbia University. Jean used to be an entrepreneur in France before coming to the US, he launched among others Bankexam, a leading French education site. Balazs co-founded a media venture and he used to be a strategy consultant. We both do this because we love to work on new things, shake up the status quo and be free as entrepreneurs
How does DateMySchool match people?
The matching algorithm is based on your profile, so the more details you provide the better matches are you going to have. However since universities are not that big, you probably just need to search and find your ideal match by yourself.
What is DMS Network, Inc.?
DateMySchool is the name of the website that is owned by DMS Network, Inc., our company. We thought DMS Network, Inc. sounds more serious when we have to talk to lawyers, the government, etc.
